By Bryan Hulbert, Lucas Oil ASCS PR (Lawton, OK) — Racing to three podium finishes in as many nights to kick off the 2013 ASCS Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek, Jeff Swindell added to his record of nights on the podium with his first triumph of 2013 coming at the Lawton Speedway in the H&H Container Services No. 94.
His first victory at the Lawton Speedway in Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real, Swindell was challenged several times on restarts by runner up finisher Dustin Morgan. The Bartlett, Tenn. driver worked a mixture of lines on the ultra-slick surface to pull a straight-a-way advantage at the checkered flag in the National Tour’s thirteenth visit at the quarter-mile oval.

Asked about recent runs leading up to the win, Swindell commented that the car was setup similar to what he ran nearly 15 years ago, “It’s amazing some of the little things that can mess you up really bad and on these little bullring slick tracks, most of these guys have been driving by us but I think that little spells’ over with.”
Dustin Morgan’s runner up finish matched his run at the U.S. 36 Raceway on May 17. Sharing the front row with Swindell, a Lap 22 caution saw Dustin pull even outside Swindell but to no avail. Morgan held off several attempts by Jason Johnson for the runner up finish. “We just gotta take this run and build some momentum off it” commented Morgan. Reflecting on his improvement over the course of Speedweek, Morgan was happy, but not satisfied with a second place, “We had a tough couple goings earlier this week but ripping off a second here, well, it’s okay but second kinda sucks.”
Jason Johnson added his sixth podium appearance of the season after starting fifth; trading back and forth several times with Brad Loyet before securing the position on Lap 12. “We just missed the setup a little bit, but my guys are working their tails off and we’ll get in figured out for tomorrow night. I just didn’t have the driver off the corners. I could beat them all the way to the apex, but the exit of the corner I just got balled up.”
Running third the first 12 laps, Brad Loyet fell to fifth on Lap 16 after battling several laps with Joe Wood, Jr. the Blake Hahn. Finding the center line of the Lawton Speedway on Lap 23 through turns three and four, Loyet came back to fourth in the Miller Truck Lines No. 05 with Christopher Bell coming up to complete the top five in the Baytown Ford No. 31B
Blake Hahn crossed sixth after getting as high as fourth with Joe Wood, Jr. seventh. Tony Bruce, Jr. advanced four to finish eighth with Mike Goodman following suit. Matt Covington advanced six to complete the top ten.
Heat Races at the Lawton Speedway numbered six with Jake Martens leading off with Wesmar Heat one. Joe Wood, Jr. topped BMRS Heat two with Christopher Bell going from eights to the win in Rod End Supply Heat three to earn the FSR Radiators High Point Driver of the Night. Ti22 Heat four went to Channin Tankersley followed by Zach Pringle in Saldana Racing Products Heat five. SBI Fuel Systems Heat six was topped by Tony Bruce, Jr.
Seth Bergman raced into the feature in The Joie of Seating B-Feature one with Johnny Herrera taking DMI B-Feature two.
Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek continues Thursday, June 20 at the Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla. Driver meet and greet begins at 4:30 P.M. (CDT) with races getting underway at 8:00 P.M.
