(Kansas City, MO) — “To remember, honor and teach about the service and sacrifices of our veterans, active military and their families – We will Never Forget.”
This describes the mission of Wreaths Across America – a nationwide organization dedicated to the memory and service of our fallen veterans through the coordination of wreath-laying ceremonies each December on graves at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states, ceremonies at sea and 24 national cemeteries on foreign soil. This year, Wreaths Across America has designated Saturday, December 14th for its national tribute.
In support of this effort, hundreds of thousands of volunteers will help distribute and place wreaths on military graves throughout the country. Included in this momentous effort are some of the nation’s largest transportation companies who volunteer trucks and drivers to help ship wreaths to distribution points and, ultimately, military cemeteries across the country.
This year, Arrow Truck Sales, Dean Realty Co., The Salvation Army and KC Custom, Inc. have joined together here in the Kansas City area to help collect, store and distribute more than 32,000 wreaths. On Monday morning, December 9th, these local volunteers will begin loading wreaths onto more than 10 trucks bound for their final destinations.
Also joining local volunteers the morning of December 9th will be NASCAR Camping World Series driver, and Kansas City, Kansas native, Jennifer Jo Cobb, whose Driven 2 Honor initiative honors women currently serving in the military.
“As a company, Arrow Truck Sales has always supported local charities and scholarships, commented Ken Kosic, Arrow’s Director of Operations. Supporting Wreaths Across America is simply our way of honoring and remembering all veterans who have sacrificed so much to keep our nation free – especially the fallen who made the ultimate sacrifice.”
Dean Realty Co. has donated 75,000 square feet of warehouse space at 3177 Mercier Street, near its corporate headquarters in Kansas City, MO, to off-load and store wreaths prior to outbound shipments to designated military cemeteries.
“When I first heard of the wreaths, and the honor to our past veterans, I immediately signed on with our company’s full support. Going back to, at least, the American Revolution, many generations of our family, and those of our employees, proudly and so bravely served. We are fortunate to be a part of this great effort,” said Lester M. Dean / Chairman, President & CEO, Dean Realty Co.
Since The Salvation Army and Kansas City Star were already utilizing the same Dean Realty Co.
warehouse space to store and sort coats and other winter clothing for their Project Warmth initiative, they offered to donate usage of pallet jacks and forklifts to help unload and load trucks for Wreaths Across America.
“We are proud to support the Wreaths Across America effort to honor America’s fallen military heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country,” said Major Charles Smith, divisional commander of The Salvation Army, Kansas and Western Missouri Division.
