STSS Big Block Mods test Port Royal for $50,000 to win Saturday showdown

Port Royal, PA — “Go time.”

Practice is in the record books and the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco officially kicks off the $50,000-to-win ‘Speed Showcase’ at Port Royal Speedway.

Following a weather delay, the STSS Modifieds opened the weekend with a pair of practice rounds for a whopping 61 cars with more on the way for racing.

Wurtsboro, N.Y.’s Danny Creeden laid down the quickest time of the early afternoon session with a time of 18.672 around the sprawling half-mile oval.

Oley, Pa.’s Duane Howard paced the field in the first of two sessions with a time of 18.898.

Howard's Oley, Pa. neighbor Louden Reimert was second quickest, Branchburg, N.J.’s Ryan Krachun, Ransomville, N.Y.’s Erick Rudolph, and Baldwinsville, N.Y.’s Jimmy Phelps rounded out the top five in the first session.

With Creeden pacing the second set, Neshanic Station, N.J.’s Matt Stangle, St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada’s Mat Williamson, Boyertown, Pa.’s Mike Gular, and Mooresville, N.C.’s Max McLaughlin completed the top five in the second session.

In STSS Crate 602 Sportsman action, Boyertown, Pa.’s Logan Watt topped the charts with a time of 20.305 around the ‘Speed Palace.’

Pilesgrove Township, N.J.’s Ethan Bill, Norristown, Pa.’s Adrianna Delliponti, North Tonawanda, N.Y.’s Dave DiPietro II, and Johnstown, N.Y.’s Brian Calabrese were the top five in STSS Crate 602 Sportsman timing.

Eighty-one STSS Crate 602 Sportsman signed in to partake in practice.

Chelsea, Quebec, Canada’s Denis Gauvreau paced the New York based Pro Stocks with a time of 23.070 in the first of two sessions.

Fifteen Pro Stocks took part in practice to open the weekend.

Bob Hilbert Sportswear ‘Qualifying Night’ is slated to kick off tonight. Penske Racing Shocks Hot Laps are slated for 6:15 p.m. and racing to begin at 7 p.m.

Friday’s racing program features five 15-lap Qualifying Races for the STSS Modifieds, six 12-lap Qualifying Races for the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman, and two 8-lap heat races for the Pro Stocks to set the stage for Saturday’s main events.

Grandstand admission is $20 for Adults and $10 for Students (ages 13-18). Kids ages 12 get in FREE.

Pit Admission is $40.

Then on Saturday, following consolation races, the STSS Modifieds do battle for 75-laps and the $50,000 top prize.

The STSS Crate 602 Sportsman race for 50-laps and a $4,000 winner’s share and the New York Based Pro Stocks go for 25-laps and a $1,250 prize to take back home.

For Saturday (March 16), all gates open at 11 a.m. with Penske Racing Shocks Hot Laps beginning at 2 p.m. and racing starts at 3 p.m.

Grandstand admission is $40 for Adults and $20 for Students (ages 13-18). Kids 12 and under get in FREE.

Pit Admission is $50.
