Reece Solander wins Battle at the Bullring at Humboldt; Fuqua tops Heartland Modified Tour

HUMBOLDT, Kansas — 38 Heartland Modifieds signed in for competition Saturday night at Humboldt Speedway's Battle at the Bullring finale. When the VP Racing Fuel checkers waved, Darren Fuqua found himself first across the line capturing the $2,000 payday. He bettered his Friday performance by one position.

“It felt good to win the feature for sure,” said Fuqua. “I started sixth, took the lead, pulled away and then got held up by lapped cars. I was maybe a little too patient with them. When they threw the green I saw the cars in front of me go to the middle and the bottom. I went high just because it was available, and man I felt good running there. I felt Tyler (Davis) get into me late. I wish we could have raced it out to the end, but regardless I needed the yellow so it helped me for sure.”

When Fuqua was racing locally and honing his skills behind the wheel of a Modified, Humboldt Speedway was a place he frequented.

“I always have had a ton of respect for the Whitworth family,” Fuqua elaborated. “The place has a down home feel and still does with JR Sartain and his wife Kati and John Allen running it. It's my kind of place and always has been. It's a great thing that Ryan Whitworth has stayed on board and works the track like he does. Nobody knows the place better than him. He gave us an excellent track, yet again.”

The lone Midwest Sheet Metal caution flew on lap 28 and set up a two lap dash to the checkers. Behind Fuqua was Tyler Wolff and Tanner Mullens. Also in the mix were fourth and fifth place finishing Gabe Hodges and Gunner Martin.

The series next event will be on Friday, May 10 in Lebanon, Missouri at the Lebanon Midway Speedway. The track has already announced, due to a great local partner “Lazy Lee's One Stop” that all grandstand entry for the event will be free of charge.

In other action at the speedway, Reece Solander held off Ryan Gillmore and Lucas Rodin to score the $5,000 victory in the B-Mod division.
