Hello, been so busy patching up the car after crashes and trying to get it work well I have not thought about writing a new story. I'm not much of a writer anyway. But I've been thinking about what a great sport racing is for drivers and fans and crewmen. I don't think a lot of folks realize how close the racing community is. With the terrible injuries suffered by drivers and cars falling on crewmen and the passing of some dear friends it is wonderful to see how the racing community has pulled together to show their support and say their prayers for the family's and folks that have been hurt. It makes me proud to be a part of such a fine group of people. Racing is an always has been a dangerous sport, we drivers all get banged up from time to time, but it never dampens our love for what we do. So we all crawl in our cars never thinking something bad will happen to us, we firmly believe we will be able to miss the wreck, get out in case of fire, and never will get hurt very bad. That is what makes racers drive their butts off. Nothing has changed in the 30 some years I've been away from the sport. . . . read more
It has been a hell of a long winter this year and I'm glad it is over. Then the rains came and have been messing up everyone's racing. hardly any tracks got in any practice and races have been canceled. everybody is cussing the rain and late spring cold weather. We work on our cars all winter to get ready to race, worse for me mine has been ready to race since last Oct. Car owner bought a used Dirt Works mod and I spent 5 weeks redoing it, that helped pass some time, got it about done except for the motor. Going to be quite a while before we can race it, can't really afford to put one together right now. We have a couple of things in the fire trying to get some sponsor help for the Mod, but I'm not holding my breath on either one.. . . read more
I know all racing drivers, car owners and fans have some special racing memories. When suffering through a Midwest winter, memories of seasons past and expectations of the upcoming season is about all there is to B.S about. Since I have re-entered the great sport of racing and have met some new racing friends and re-newed some old friendships a lot of memories have come to mind. So I am going to list a few of many in this post.. . . read more
The GN class seems to me to be slowly coming to extinction. I was not racing when this class was started but I assume it was supposed to be a lower cost way to run a late model style car, somebody correct me if this is wrong. From what I've seen the cars are a lot lower priced than the late models that ran at Lakeside at the end of last year. . . . read more
Wife and I were invited to the I-70 awards party, they were honoring the 70's track Champions. we really had a very nice time and was so much fun seeing my old racing friends and drivers. Sure brought back some great memories of our early racing days. was really a lot of fun meeting some of the drivers that are racing there now too. Thanks to all who stopped by to visit , I'm sure the other Champions are as proud as I am to be remembered at such a special event. Thanks to the great folks at I-70 for such a nice evening. Sorry we left early, but had a 90 mile drive home and the icy roads was a major concern.. . . read more
I have been asked that a lot lately so I will explain how it happened. Claudia and I moved to a small town close to a lake because we love fishing. I'm retired now and we were just kicked back and doing quite a lot of fishing.. . . read more
My name is Terry Bivins and I drive the #53 Grand National at Lakeside Speedway. Did a lot of racing years ago, and after a 30 year lay off [no typo error], I am so happy to be back racing again. Racing has always been the love of my life.. . . read more
