Also, a big thanks to Gateway International Raceway General Manager Lenny Batycki for calling a few of Saturday afternoon's alphabet soup races.. . . read more
40 years ago, I attended my first dirt track race with Dave Chartrand. Throughout High School and years beyond, our group of die-hard race fanatics traveled anywhere we could to watch races, and Dave Chartrand was the most passionate fan of racing I have ever known. He especially loved sprint car racing, and he loved Knoxville.. . . read more
Most anyone who watched Clint Bowyer race before he got the call from Richard Childress knew it was only a matter of time he would win a NASCAR Nextel Cup race. Now that his time has come, the wins will multiply. That's because the "Kid" from Emporia is all about winning, always has been. Once he tastes victory, he's determined to grab as much as he can get. Feed the dog a bone, he's not going to let go.. . . read more
I knew I was in trouble as soon as I reached Osceola. It goes with the territory when you set for a full weekend of racing, Mother Nature may have other ideas. I left Kansas City under clear blue skies and 90 degree temperatures, and by the time I rolled into Des Moines, threatening clouds and 70 degrees.. . . read more
Boy, was I fooled. I had said for months there's no way Teresa Earnhardt would let her star driver get away, that a deal would have to get done. We are two days removed from one of the most exciting finishes in NASCAR history, and all some people want to talk about is whether or not the yellow flag should have been thrown before the leaders crossed the start-finish line. These are the same people who complained about races ending under caution, wanting NASCAR to mandate the green-white-checker finish. You can’t have it both ways. If you’re really concerned about safety, green-white-checker finishes at Daytona and Talladega would never have become reality.. . . read more
NASCAR is not racing. It's a soap opra. Instead of talking about the drivers and teams who have a shot at winning the Daytona 500, we're talking about crew chiefs escorted off the property and $100,000 fines. Does anyone really believe this will make any difference at all?. . . read more
