I have been asked that a lot lately so I will explain how it happened. Claudia and I moved to a small town close to a lake because we love fishing. I'm retired now and we were just kicked back and doing quite a lot of fishing.
Then, a phone call from Claudia's brother asking her to ask me if I would drive a race car if one was built for me. I pondered this for a day or two and told the guys to come down and we would talk about it. Fred Pullen and Claudia's brother showed up that weekend. After 2 hours of discussing the deal we decided we would that I would drive the new car 3 or 4 races a year just for fun and not get to wrapped up in the racing. So Fred with help from some friends built me a very nice ride. We were planning on getting to the track in late June, but with all of the guys working at there full time jobs it was finished much later in the year. Linn County Speedway was nice enough to give us a day to test the car, but after only a few laps we had a heating problem and had to cancel the test day. So off we go to Lakeside to go racing, a lower a-arm bolt broke the first night and hit the wall hard coming off of turn 2, had quite a bit of repair work to do. Got the car fixed and back to the track for another round. We had some major chassis problems due to mechanical failures and my lack of knowledge of the new style cars, so we did do all that well. But the few nights we had at the track rekindled an old fire that has been simmering on the back burner for a long long time. We had forgotten how much we love racing and the people involved in such a wonderful sport. Well you guessed it now we are so excited about next season, we think we have all of the problems fixed on the car and I am better tuned up on the new style chassis. We are hoping to run a little closer to the front next year. We are going to try and run all of the races, that 3 or 4 races a year will no way be enough now, the bug has got us bad. Car is all ready to go and this is going to be a very long winter waiting for season to start.
Claudia and I want to thank Fred Pullen, Tim Karrick, Bunny Whistler,Scott Crystal and all the rest of the guys that helped on the car that has brought so much fun and excitement back into our lives. {hope I spelled everyones name right]
And thats how we got back into racing.
