Going, Going, GONE!

A quick thank you to everyone that attended the Bodee's Racers Auction & Trade Show this year. With the help of all the vendors, consignors and racers willing to spend their soon to receive tax refund, the show went over like a green to checker figure eight race. I really appreciate all the help from everyone involved and I was very pleased with the success and turnout. Which leads me up to the main topic of this weeks blog, its an auction, like any public event you can't please everyone or can you?
It was my job as the promoter of the auction to try and make it a reasonably pleasurable experience for both the consignors and the buyers. This of course tends to be difficult when you are dealing with 1100 race car drivers & about 200 car owners, not to mention I have minimal control over what the market on used race parts will be from year to year. Luckily for me, most of my consignors had been to one of my sales before and had good luck on their consignments then. But then again there are always a few that may belive their repainted, barely bent, 32lb. modified wheel is worth within $10 of a new chrome Bassett. Now granted this rarely happens, but there is not much I can do other than hope that there is another racer looking for the miss to his set of boat anchors. From the response after the sale, I believe all my consignors were happy when the cash was handed over.
Now the buyers are another story, they want a twelve pack but only want to have to pay for the box the beer came in. Don't get me wrong, because there is nothing wrong with trying to get the most bang for your buck, because that is what auctions are all about. Throughout the day of the sale you will see used items bring more than new, but see $2000 crankshafts bring $300. For those of who attend auctions know this is normal.
Evidentally, over the last nine years of having this event, the majority of consignors & buyers have been pleased. It has grown from 500 lot #'s to 1800 lot#'s over two days. The growth tells me that people are, for the majority, happy. Of course not everyone is always happy, if a racetrack promoter made everyone happy all the time, we wouldn't have anyone to blame our mistakes on. So as long as you can experience growth with the way you are doing business, you are doing something right. I encourage your comments so I can learn how to make EVERYONE happy. Untill Next Time, Be Happy!
