March madness

Can you believe it? Barely a week since a blizzard blew through the upper Midwest, the sound of engines will be heard in Nebraska this weekend as the Untied States Modified Touring Series kicks off its 2007 campaign at Junction Motor Speedway.
Cabin fever set in at Christmas time, so there will be no shortage of Modified racers ready to "gas it up" on the fast 3/8-mile clay. Interesting how you prepare a track with frost still in the ground. Should be a fun ride.
March 16-18, the annual Spring Nationals at Beatirce is scheduled. And, the following weekend will see the USMTS in action at Humboldt on Friday, I-70 Speedway's new dirt track on Saturday, and Sunday, March 25, at Thunderhill Speedway.
Usually we see more precipitation in April than we do in March, so I wouldn't be surprised all of these events in the next three weeks run as scheduled with next month's season openers becoming a hit-and-miss proposition.
The last weekend in April will be spent at Kansas Speedway this year, as opposed to the heat of early July. The one thing I liked about that is that it was dry. Cooler weather will be great, but it's no fun hanging around a race track when it's raining. We'll all be keeping our fingers crossed for nice and dry conditions April 28-30 last year was a complete washout. The only race within a four-hour drive of Kansas City that ran was the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Gateway, and it was touch and go at that. I feel as long as I talk about rain, the opposite will occur.
Had a geat time at the C.A.R.B. Hall of Fame dinner last weekend as five legandary names were enshrined. We'll forever remember the exploits of Maston Gregory, Carl Williams, Eddie Leavitt, Howard House, and Ralph Parkinson Sr. Pleasantly surprised to see the event in the larger Grand Ballroom. Brought the whole affair to a new level. Thanks to C.A.R.B. for letting me be a part of it.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the C.A.R.B. Race On this Saturday. It's part of the annual "Snake Saturday." in North Kansas City. We'll be broadcasting "Track Talk" LIVE from 8 to 10 in front of Finnigan's Hall.
March is truly "madness" for me juggling my other passion, college basketball, with racing. Sleep will just have to wait. Man, I love this time of the year!
