I AM NEVER GOING BACK!!!!!!!

Posted by Jason Bodenhamer at 03:26:57 PM

Hold on, don't get all excited, I am not royally bowed up on a series or a particular racetrack.  As a matter of fact, I am not even making this statement.  But how many times have you heard a racer, a racer's wife or a hard core race fan make this premature claim to his future, " I AM NEVER GOING BACK!".  Maybe due to track conditions, tech enforcement, poor purse, or better yet - the draw is rigged. How many of you have heard someone, somewhere shout this out after a race? Come on -

How would you react as a race car driver if one of your family members drove 2 or 3 hours to watch you race, sat 4,5, or maybe 6 hours on some splintery bleacher board to see you stuff it in the wall the first turn of the A main, and the first thing you heard when you got back in the pits is "I AM NEVER COMING BACK"?  Trust me, there have been many times in my racing career that I wanted to say and do just that.  But I have heard enough racers say that, and in 2 or 3 weeks when the smoke has cleared, they are back, eating their words.

Now I realize there are probably a few of you that have stuck to their word, but the majority just look stupid when they say it and come marching back.  I know many people that like to go to the river boats to gamble, they lose their house payment and tell their friends 'I AM NEVER GOING BACK!"  - BULLCRAP - As soon as they get a little extra cash they run right back up there.

Recently at Lucas Speedway, many race fans made this ridiculous statement . Come on now, I raced in that corn field myself but I would not make that claim over a one time track condition.  It would be silly to not go back and run at such a nice facility that actually promotes some of  largest shows in our area.

So my suggestion from now on, before you go spouting out "I AM NEVER GOING BACK" make sure that you actually mean it and stick to it.  If for no other reason, stick to it for those of us that have to listen to your ridiculous crap.  Racing itself is difficult enough, for the promoters, racers, and fans.  Negative statements like that just make it a little more rough.   Hope this gives you something to kick around, and don't worry  - "I BE BACK!"
