Introduction
Posted by at 11:46:01 AM
I’ll start off with a little introduction as I take the step into the world of the Racin Boys blogs. My name is Clint Brown and I live in
Sedalia, MO with my wife and three kids, three cats, and a dog. Whew – glad we live on a farm because we need the room. I started out around racing pretty young when my dad helped Don Cooper back in the early 70’s and things have taken several transitions over the years.
In the late 80’s I went from circle track over to drag racing where I helped out a friend and his dad with their Super Pro Vega that they raced at Kansas City International Raceway. We spent almost every weekend at the track along with the countless hours in the shop working on the car. That was a big learning experience. That went on for a couple of years and then my dad got a call from Donnie Cooper Jr. that he was getting together a late model to run at State Fair Motor Speedway that had just come under the direction of Bob Baker. So off I went to the circle track again, but I stayed with the drag racing as well so Friday nights were spent at the dirt track with Saturdays at the drag strip. Boy I’m glad I was young because I don’t think I could do that again.
Jump forward again a couple of years and the late model was gone and suddenly the drag racing got expanded to two cars and now I was in the seat of the Vega that I had worked on so much. Boy was that a blast. The driving side of things lasted for about five years when I met my wife and decided it was time to settle down a bit as we started a family.
A couple of years away was about all I could take and I got back into it again at the fair grounds in Sedalia only this time I stepped over to the track crew side taking care of the track website. It was actually a real fun time and it forced me to understand better what it takes to make weekly racing a go. During the second year of that I added in driving down to Wheatland on Saturdays to also help out down there. Then the promoter that I was working for stepped away and that is when Earl & Susan Walls of Central Missouri Speedway stepped in to promote the races in
Sedalia . One thing led to another and before I knew it I was working for them in both
Sedalia and Warrensburg. That was a busy summer, but I really did learn a lot from Earl and Susan and cannot think them enough.
That year made me step back a little and in 2005 I began helping Harriett and Cowboy Chancellor with the O’Reilly MLRA. Late Models have always been near and dear to my heart so it was a thrill to be able to help them out. I started out by taking care of the website and before I knew it I was sending out the press releases as well. Unfortunately my work and family don’t allow me to go to as many races as I would like, but being home to play with the kids is always a blast.
2005 was also the year I received the call to see if I would be interested in putting together the races for the Missouri State Fair which I quickly jumped at. The opportunity was one that I just couldn’t pass up. Boy looking back on it now I sure didn’t know what I was getting myself into. That first year went good enough that I was asked to do it again in 2006 and now I’m getting ready for the 2007 edition and it looks to be even better.
I guess that pretty much sums things up to this point. I’ve gone from crew member to driver to track crew to promotions. Not sure if that is a natural progression or not, but it’s been a lot of fun along the way. Until next time have a good time at the races.

Good starting blog Clint. Do you have extra room for another official for the State Fair Races, because I have experience and I am very interested in working the fair races? Thanks.
