From the desk of...

Posted by Clint Brown at 07:21:41 PM

It's that time again that the weather is playing havoc with our area tracks.  For some reason it seems worse this year than others and I'm not sure why.  I know that some promoters are wondering what it is they have to do to get in a show.  One of these days it has to dry out so we can get some racing in.

Headed out to catch the Bob Ramey Memorial last week and caught a pretty good show.  In the modified division there were two different teams that looked like they were going to be pretty dang tough in 2008.  The team of Dustin Boney and Jason Thompson has always been tough when they hooked up and look to be the same again.  Another one that was pretty impressive was Chad Lyle.  Chad is a heck of a driver, but you've got to remember that this is a new team for him and believe me when I say that Eddie Young has some good equipment.  Watch out for both of these teams this year because I really think you'll be hearing a lot about them.

Speaking of the Bob Ramey Memorial man the weather was great for racing and to pay tribute to a great man.  I had the privelage of working at the track before Mr. Ramey passed away and he was always there with a smile on his face and some matter of fact remark that made you smile and laugh.

Also have to say get well soon to Donnie Abney.  Donnie is the man responsible for getting Sedalia's State Fair Speedway in shape and has a tough go as of late which caused him to miss out on Sunday's show.  He was checking in and making sure that the track was ready for the night.

Let's talk fuel prices.  A lot has been made of the subject especially when it comes to racers and fans.  Yes, this is something that is a hard pill to swallow for everybody.  Heck my own car takes $50.00 to fill up now days and it's a little 4 cylinder.  The thing that gets me is that if the price of fuel is so bad then why are racers driving 2-3 hours and past other tracks for weekly racing?  Don't tell me it doesn't happen because all you have to do is look at some of the results and figure it out.  Heck I saw a racer that is from around Winston head through Sedalia a couple of weeks ago and his name was in the results for Lucas Oil Speedway.  Now this was a ULMA car which could very well have gone to CMS and saved on fuel.  This isn't the only driver to do this so it's not that isolated either.  Don't get me wrong - I fully understand the draw of some drivers wanting to run Lucas, but don't drive 2 hours to get there and then complain about the price of fuel.

Man was I glad to be able to grab two race dates for the 2008 Missouri State Fair.  We must be doing something ok since they actually came to us and asked to do more.  As most of you know we're going to have a show on Thursday, August 14, and then close out the fair once again on Sunday, August 17.  The Thursday show will have the Street Stock, ULMA Late Models, and round 2 of the Impact Sign & Lighting Modified Shootout Series taking to the Historic 1/2 Mile.  On Sunday we're going to bring back the O'Reilly MLRA Late Models and the O'Reilly Winged Outlaw Warriors along with round 3 of the Impact Sign & Lighting Modified Shootout Series.  It's going to be a busy couple of days, but we always have a great time and look forward to it again this year.

Well that's about all I've got this time.  Wherever you're at support your local track and the businesses that support them.
