A little break from the weather please

Posted by Clint Brown at 08:25:03 AM

It's been a while since my last post so here goes.

Glad to see that LA Raceway got a reprieve from the weather on Friday night.  They have been dealt a pretty tough hand so far this season with all of the rain.  They didn't get the entire show done, but at least they got to race the majority of the show before the rains came.  I know Mike and his crew have been working their tails off this year to try and get the races in, but not much they can do about Mother Nature.

Got to travel down to Lucas Oil Speedway for the O'Reilly Challenge event last week and that was a pretty good show.  Hated to see so many tough cars not make the feature, but that showed just how stout the field was from top to bottom.

Now don't get me wrong I like watching Billy Moyer race and was glad to see him show up at Lucas Oil Speedway last weekend.  The only thing is that I wish a driver that supported an O'Reilly sponsored series could have taken the checkered flag first.  Thought Terry Phillips was going to do it until his little run in about halfway through the event.

Recently it was announced that the Regional A Modified Series (RAMS) was forming for the 2009 racing season.  I really think that this could be a good idea if it is done right.  A standard set of rules would let guys know that if they built cars they are able to run at X amount of tracks.  The tough part will probably be getting some of the tracks to make a few changes.  You know how racers are and resistant to change.

Looking forward to the Tom Wilson BBQ Bowl next weekend at Central Missouri Speedway.  Got the oppurtunity to work with Tom for a couple of years and he was just one of the best.  His knowledge of the drivers just astounded me.  Earl, Susan, and the entire CMS crew have worked real hard to make this event one to catch and with bumping the purse up for this year it will be interesting.  Would be great to see one of the local drivers come home with the $5,000 check for the win.

While at the Lucas Oil event got to have a nice conversation with Scott Traylor about the state of our sport.  Scott it was interesting hearing your thoughts about how things are going.  Some differed from mine, but for the most part I think you were dead on.  Would still be interested in discussing more the other topics we discussed.

Just read the blog from Troy Harrison and man I couldn't agree more.  I can remember when the old motto of "Win of Sunday sell on Monday" was used a lot.  Looking at todays cars what the heck are they going to buy on Monday?????  Funny how things have changed so much to where you have to walk around a car to see the decals to find out what make it is supposed to be.

And not just for the racers, but for all the local farmers that race. They haven't got to race when the tracks have been open because they've been planting dusk to dawn trying to catch up.
