STOP ENJOY THE MOMENT
Posted by John Green at 12:11:11 AM
It must be August and that is when we locally experience our own version of silly season (crazy stuff starts happening). We start counting down the days until racing is over. High School football, Fantasy Football, College Football, and NFL Football are just around the corner. We are torn by our emotions of a season ending and new season beginning.
STOP ENJOY THE MOMENT. We are still racing! Most tracks race through the end of September, a couple are racing through October.
The internet comes alive this time of year. All you have to do is speed read a couple of threads or websites and you would think our sport is in dire straights. Car counts are falling at your favorite track..... the officials cannot make a call correctly.....the officals are not consistent...the track called the race too soon, too late,....with only a few weeks left I am going to get even,,,,he/she is a no driving fool.....everyone is cheating...I am not racing blankety blank track anymore....they are playing favorites.....there are favorites at every track? FOLKS STOP ENJOY THE MOMENT.
One of the greatest gifts we have is our racing family. The racing family is God believing, family supporting, and proud of our country. Everytime I hear Craig Morgan's song God, Family and Country I think of the racing family. Forget to push the up button on the PA during an opening prayer and there are race fans that get upset. Fortunately they let the flagman know.
Getting even with someone - wrong. Drivers remember who got into them, each incident, when where and how. Unfortunately we live in a time where someone has to be blamed. We forget this is racing, sometimes _ _ _ _ happens. Accidents happen, the track has a rut, two cars get together and someone has to be at fault. Two guys go for the same hole and meet, it has to be someone's fault, someone must be rough driving, if it happens to me I am going to get him/her back, I am going to get even. WRONG - STOP AND ENJOY THE MOMENT.
We must remember two wrongs do not make a right, The Bible teaches in 1 Peter 3:9, "Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing." Can't argue with that verse. Maybe racers should learn to respect each other and stop the blame game. After all there must be competitors to have a race. STOP AND ENJOY THE MOMENT.
Recently the racing family lost two members Ron Lutes and Greg Weld. FOLKS STOP ENJOY THE MOMENT, hug those love ones closest to you, hug your racing family, none of us know exactly when it will be over.
As we age we find FOLKS who do STOP AND ENJOY THE MOMENT. That would be the Old Timers Group started by Charlie Kraft. This weekend they will celebrate at Lakeside Speedway. Saturday they will picnic and the stories will fly. Stories that over the years have gotten better, but you know what? None of their stories include getting even, complaining about officials, complaining about track decisions, complainng about favoritism, complaining that someone can't drive. They have learned to STOP AND ENJOY THE MOMENT, so join them!
