Thursday, September 11, 2008 NASCAR is finally pissin' me off...Posted by Troy Harrison at 01:00:28 PM
Yep, it's true. NASCAR is finally making me mad as hell. Now, look - I've been a NASCAR fan since birth. Went to Daytona as a kid. Stuck up for them during the Dale Earnhardt death investigation. Swallowed the Car of Tomorrow as a necessary change for the sport. But if what I think is going to happen, actually happens, I've had it.
My ire is over the upcoming Nationwide Car of Tomorrow test. If you haven't heard, the COT will be reduced to 105 inches and become the car for the Nationwide series. NASCAR has also informed the manufacturers that they wanted the new bodies to be based on the new pony cars (Challenger, Mustang, Camaro) to give the series its own identity.
My thought on that was, it's about flippin' time! One reason I didn't mind the "one look" COT is that the cars they're based on look pretty much the same, as well - all boring as hell. The pony cars - now those are different. Real styling, killer looks.
So what does it appear NASCAR is going to do? You guessed it - graft Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger noses onto the #&#(@#*&@ butt ugly COT's! This move, if it happens, will prove that NASCAR management is as incompetent as its detractors claim.
Come on, NASCAR. If you're going to run Camaros, Mustangs, and Challengers, then race them and be proud of it.
