Adrain Speedway has closed its doors, according to a message on it's web site. "Sat June 6 was the last race here at Adrian Speedway as we have CLOSED our doors. The track is for lease to the right group under the right conditions. For more info send an e-mail or call the track phone at 816-297-4400"
The track has been owned for the last decade by Glenn and Colleen Portzen, and has operated on Saturday nights. The final race was the Vern Claiborne Memorial won by Jerry Tarwater Jr. No official reason has been give as to the reason for the closure. However, bad weather, sour economic times, and the opening of Butler Speedway are some of the circumstances that have affected the track in recent years. In addition, the Portzen family suffered through a devastating fire that destroyed their home on the track property a few years ago.
More about the closing will be forthcoming on RacinBoys.com and this Saturday morning's "Track Talk" on Sports Radio 810 WHB.
