Dirt track racing fans throughout the area all seem to agree, when the O' Reily NCRA Modifed series comes to town, they bring some mighty fine talent from both Kansas and surrounding states. May 16th at Humboldt Speedway was no exception. And, it was a Humboldt driver who topped 'em all.

Dan Daniels resides in Humboldt, but is not a full time regular at the Speedway. He usually makes the big shows, and commands some serious respect from fellow competitors. The thing that really stood out to this author in Daniels' A feature win this week against the NCRA elite was paitence. Smooth driving skills took Daniels to the A main from the heats, and when Ft. Scott driver Brian Bolin took command of the first 18 laps of the 25 lap feature, Daniels steadily worked his way to within striking distance, making his move on lap 19. Bolin did not yield easily, but ended in the runner up spot as Daniels calmly led the remaining laps. Patient too wqas Whitey Folk, who took the third spot away fron NCRA regular Brandon Morton on the closing lap. Another regular, Brian Franz of Halstead, Ks., finished in fifth.

Levi McGowen tracked down Tyler James to take home Friday's Street Stock feature trophy. James turned in a strong second, with Jed Rice third. Fourth went to Johnny Green, while Zack Marsh was fifth.

Meanwhile, Todd Kidwell was finally able to brush aside the bad luck that has dogged him of late, and lay claim to top spot in the B Mod feature. Brad Jarman turned in a strong performance to finish second. Third went to Riley Whitworth. Ray Maloney was strong early but fell to fourth, while Mike Letterman took a hard fought fifth place.

Steve Stuart used pole position, secured by a heat race win, to cruise to victory in Factory Stock. Runner up Scott Cronk was fast late, but without sufficent laps remaining could not catch Stuart at the end. Derrek Wison claimed third, followed by Scott lucke and Travis Larson.

Memorial weekend is just over the horizion, and with it will come two races at The Hummer. First the regular Friday show, with Kid's Night bike races at halftime, then the Dwaine Whitworth Memorial $1000.00 to win Modified show on Sunday, May 25th. This will also be a make up points night for Factory and Street Stock, as well as B Mods.
