Dodge City’s Brian Herbert ended the URSS Triple Header Weekend the same way he started it picking up his second URSS win at the venerable high banks at 81 Speedway in Wichita, Kansas. It wasn’t an easy as Herbert had to battle URSS veterans as well as a talented Rookie to take the victory.

St. Joseph Missouri’s Cody Salem led the field to the green flag Smokey Fairbank grabbed the top spot followed by Cody Salem, Brian Herbert, Greg Thyfault and Taylor Milton rounding out the top five. Lap three saw the red flag fly as Thyfault made contact with Corey Lutters send Thyfault on a wild ride on the front stretch as he tumbled several times before coming to a stop. On the restart Fairbank held off Fargo Oklahoma’s Taylor “Tay Rocket” Milton for several laps until he took the lead on lap seven. The talented 14 year old took of as he lengthened his lead. Lap ten saw Herbert take the runner up spot from Fairbank followed by Mike Woodruff and Nick King in the top five.

Milton built a sizeable lead over the next few laps at times as much as a straightaway on runner up Herbert. But as Milton started to come up on traffic, Herbert closed in. The pair battled for the led and Herbert took the position on lap 21. Back in the field, the battles continued for the 4 through 7th positions as Woodruff, Berry, B-Main winner Kris Miller and Taylor Velasquez all jockeyed for positions often changing several times a lap.

Herbert held on for the win followed by Milton, Smokey Fairbank, Berry and Miller rounding out the top five.

The Weld Racing “Hard Charger Award” went to Kris Miller who charged from his 11th stating position to grab the 5th spot in the A-Main.

Kris Miller also won the Keizer Aluminum Wheels B-main award.

During the B-Main, Kinsley, Kansas driver Justin Chaffin suffered burns when his engine caught fire. Justin was taken to the St. Francis Hospital Burn Center will undergo skin grafts Tuesday and should be home Thursday.
