MIDWEST OUTLAW LIGHTNING SPRINTS

Race Results
Sat. May 3, 2008

Nevada Speedway

Nevada, MO

The first and only appearance of the Midwest Outlaw Lightning Sprints for 2008 was held at Nevada Speedway on Saturday night. The track was smooth and racey. they had a big field of cars in all 5 classes. Once again we were pitted right next to the grandstand. They open our pit gate at intermission and the spectators come in and visit, get autographs signed, and set in the race cars. We also had our first 10 Lap Racing Experience YOU RACE promotional giveaway. John Baglin of Fulton, KS was the winner.

Heat 1

1st 25 Donnie Graves Kearney, MO

2nd 4 Beau Heavelow Independence, MO

3rd 9s Chris Schofield Raymore, MO

4th 93 Mark Billings Columbia, MO Rookie

5th 45 Kevin Rupard Belton, MO

A mad scramble into the first turn resulted with Beau taking the point. Donnie cleared Chris for second as Kevin dropped back with a misfire in his engine. Mark is new and trying to get a handle on this winged car. A great race for first had the fans on their feet. Donnie finally made a high side pass of Beau with 2 laps to go. Donnie took the win, Beau 2nd and Chris 3rd.

Heat 2

1st 40 Dave Parker Warsaw, MO

2nd 11 Duane Marusarz KC, MO

3rd 15 Merrill Lamb Iola, KS

4th z8 Zach Moorehead Grain Valley, MO Rookie

5th 83g Matt Gilbert Merriam, MS Rookie

6th 58 Frank Ikerd Joplin, MO

Dave jumped into the lead with Duane giving chase and Merrill on Duane’s bumper. Frank pulled a chain into and Zack and Matt asking themselves “what had they gotten into”. Dave had them covered, Duane and Merrill had a good battle for 2nd with Duane prevailing and Merrill 3rd.
Feature

1st 15 Merrill Lamb

2nd 11 Duane Marusarz

3rd 4 Beau Heavelow

4th 93 Mark Billings

5th 9S Chris Schofield

6th 25 Donnie Graves

7th z8 Zach Moorehead

8th 83g Matt Gilbert

9th 40 Dave Parker

10th 45 Kevin Rupard

Frank Ikerd did not start because of chain problems.

The top 4 rows were inverted. Merrill jumped into the lead and he had them covered for this nite. Beau and Kevin got together on the 5th lap with Kevin getting upside down. Dave would stop on the front stretch with a dead engine. On the restart, Merrill was 1st, Duane 2nd and Beau 3rd. Duane and Beau will have a good battle for the runner up spot, and Merrill was starting to distance himself from the field. Donnie and Chris were battling for 4th. Mark was starting to work his way towards the front from his last row starting spot. All the rookies were doing a great job of getting accustomed to the speeds. Donnie developed a miss and would drop back. Zach would spin and restart at the back. This would bunch the field back up. On the restart it was a replay of the first restart. Merrill had them covered, and Duane and Beau would battle for 2nd. Mark would work his way up to 4th. Merrill would go on to win the opening nite for the Racing Experience MOLS. Duane 2nd, Beau 3rd, Mark 4th and Chris 5th.

These rookies will be contending for wins before this season is over. They all have good cars. Mark and Matt have come from Shifter Karts. Zach doesn’t have any racing experience but seems to be picking it up quickly.
Our next race is Saturday May 10th at I-70 Speedway without wings. Come out and watch the Racing Experience MOLS cars challenge the dirt. The RACING EXPERIENCE MOLS will once again be giving away a 10 Lap Driving Experience YOU DRIVE package. Remember “If you’re not PASSING…You’re not RACING!”
