Fall Series continues at Grand River SpeedwayUrich, MO - October 12, 2007 By: Greg Clemons
Two points separate the Simpsons' Championship efforts going into Sunday's third Fall Series racing event at Grand River Speedway in Urich. The Odessa, Mo, couple race each other in the dirt track's new Farm Truck division. Nikki Simpson was the first ever feature winner and a week later finished third behind her husband, Mel and Odessan, Walter Cox, Mel Simpson now leads GRS points over Nikki by only two points. His win last Sunday gave him the slight advantage with Kyle Shaw of Drexel chasing points closely behind them.
Shaw races cars in three other divisions. He leads points in the track's Bomber division and is currently in second place in Hobby Stock points behind veteren driver, Al Guthrie of Raymore who has won two weeks in a row. Also with two wins in the GRS Stock Car class, Jerry Schmidt, Independence, leads over Brian McConville of Pleasant Hill. Frank Littrell of Claycomo follows in third. Shaw races in that division as well.
In Open class competition, Gary Wise of Blue Springs took a win home on Oct. 7. He now leads over Raytown's Gene Brown and Kent Kummer of Ottawa, Ks. Kansan Jerry Brown is expected to return on the 14th to improve his fourth place standing and Kyle Shaw, the GRS Chaplin, hopes to land an Open class ride soon. He will be the first to compete in all five divisions at Grand River. The fun track resumes racing this Sunday at 1pm with time trials, heats and features on tap.
