'Steve King Memorial Sprint Classic' this Saturday at Jetmore

Jetmore, KS - May 08, 2008
By: URSS

The high banks of the Jetmore Motorplex will come alive with the sound of Thunder May 10th as it hosts the “Steve King Memorial Sprint Classic” Sponsored by the City of Jetmore and ICM. The event features a night of Sprint Car racing as its best as the NCRA 360 Winged Sprint Cars and the URSS Wingless Sprint Cars team up for a night of thrills and great racing.

The City of Jetmore is sponsoring a full day’s festivities and the evening racing activities that will benefit the Steve King Foundation. The Foundation was started in Steve’s memory to provide assistance to race car drivers, pit crew members, racing officials and track operations personnel who are involved in dirt track racing and are seriously ill, severely injured or killed. Part of the proceeds will also benefit the Hodgeman County Community Foundation Steve King Fund that provides assistance to area students and residents.

The entire day will be a celebration in the City of Jetmore with an afternoon full of activities planned in the City Square. Numerous fund raising events and activities will be held, including a golf tournament between the NCRA/URSS Drivers and Crews along with a Hamburger Feed at Noon and many of the areas best Sprint Car Drivers will have their cars on display, giving the Fans a chance to meet them one on one to get a picture or an autograph. There is also a concert planned at the Motorplex before and after the races featuring “Magnum Rock” to complete a great fundraising event Among the activities is a special fund raiser in which the winner will get to drive an actual ICM/King Racing 360 Sprint Car after the races. A $20.00 donation will give a lucky fan a chance at the "Thrill of a Lifetime" as they pilot the race car around the track.

The list of Drivers will be impressive, as the regions best will converge at the Motorplex for the Event. NCRA Drivers expected to attend include King Racing’s Derrick Drown, J D Johnson, C J Johnson, AJ Selenke and host of others. The URSS will be well represented by 2007 URSS Champion Smokey Fairbank, the “Kansas Tornado” Jon Johnson, Brian Herbert, Mike Woodruff, Cody Salem, Kirby Hagans, Brandon Fisher and more will hit the track.

Another highlight will be the debut of Jetmore’s own Ray Seemann, as King Racing will field a second team car at the event. Danny King has graciously offered Ray the opportunity to drive the second E-85 Sponsored NCRA Sprint Car at this event. Ray, Steve’s cousin and one of his close friends all through school was the winner of last years Jetmore URSS Rebel Nationals. Ray is a very talented racer and has shown that he has what it takes to go on to the next level.
